Degraded lands into flourishing forests
Degraded lands into flourishing forests
PROBLEM
The world has lost 35% of its forest and counting due to deforestation, creating a vicious cycle for climate change, biodiversity loss, and land degradation
DEFORESTATION BY THE NUMBERS
DEFORESTATION BY THE NUMBERS
- 1.2 °C average increase of Earth’s surface temperature to date
- Forests now at risk of becoming a net carbon emitter
- 70% decline in species since 1970
- Threatens everything from food security to global health, indigenous culture, and financial markets
- 20% of all land worldwide is degraded
- Risks the lives and wellbeing of 3.2 billion people globally
WHAT WE’RE DOING ABOUT IT
Restoring biodiverse forests on degraded land in partnership with smallholder farmers
Planting over 75 different native species to sequester carbon, bring back biodiversity, and restore natural ecosystems.
Providing a financially and environmentally sustainable use for marginal agricultural land.
Partnering with smallholder farmers to drive community engagement and impact.
WHY PONTERRA
What makes us different?
WHY PONTERRA
What makes us different?
Planting trees alone isn’t enough to combat the many challenges of deforestation. Our model restores land in a way that removes carbon, brings back biodiversity, and uplifts local communities.
Unlocking commercial capital is critical to addressing the funding gap for nature. We develop projects that create positive impact for communities and the environment while generating competitive returns for investors.
Big problems require big solutions. We are building the technology and processes to scale to one million hectares of land and sequester hundreds of millions of tonnes of CO2.
Learn how we are developing a new kind of carbon project.
